Where to stay in Puerto del Carmen
Once a small fishing village not far from Arrecife International Airport, Puerto del Carmen, is today the Islands premier family resort with golden sand beaches that stretch along the south coast for six kilometres.
Puerto del Carmen is also the ideal spot to base yourself for a Lanzarote vacation as you are not more than an hour’s drive from everywhere on the Island. Whether it is sightseeing in the Timanfaya National Park or surfing on Famara beach you can return to Puerto del Carman in the evening and enjoy the many bars and restaurants that the resort has to offer.
Now that we have established that you have chosen Puerto del Carmen as a base for your Lanzarote vacation let’s have a look at what we think are the best hotels to stay in that match your budget.
La Isla y El Mar
On the high end of the scale, we recommend the four-star La Isla y El Mar with rooms available from £145 per night. Having opened in the summer of 2015 this eco-friendly all-suite resort would not be out of place in any of the world’s capital cities The La Isla y El Mar features all the latest must-have amenities you would expect to find in a luxury hotel along with spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean.
Other facilities at the hotel include a heated swimming pool with Balinese sun loungers, a beauty spa and gym along with a restaurant serving gourmet à la carte meals.
The hotel says it welcomes children over the age of two, but given the fact it is more of a couples retreat you would maybe be better off leaving the little ones at home.
Hipotels La Geria Hotel
Despite having been rated as a four-star hotel, we selected the Hipotels La Geria Hotel as our moderately priced accommodation selection due to room rates starting at just £61 per night . The hotel markets itself as being in Puerto del Carmen, but truth be told it is, in fact, a 20-minute walk down the seafront promenade to all the bars and the restaurants on the Avenida Playas.
Whether you prefer to lounge around the huge palm-lined free form swimming pool or spend the day on the kilometre long golden sand beach of Playa de Los Pocillos, you have all the facilities a family could want for a relaxing beach holiday that is conducive to children.
The La Geria Hotel also offers an all-inclusive option that is a fantastic deal for family’s on a budget with all meals, drinks, snacks and ice cream included in the price.

Aparthotel Costa Mar
If cheap and cheerful is the order of the day, look no further than the self-catering apartments of Aparthotel Costa Mar, located in a tranquil setting just minutes from the beach and a gentle ten-minute stroll to all the action on the strip in Puerto del Carmen.
Built on a two-hectare site adjacent to Playa de Los Pocillos, this modern complex of apartments offers an outdoor swimming pool, along with two bars and a casual restaurant.
